TRUTH FOR YOU-TH - 5

THE MASTER-PLAN

You are going to read about the most thrilling “Master- Plan!” of all time. It is ingenious and infinite, sublime yet simple, complex but clear.

IT BEGINS THIS WAY

It was no mistake that the Master-Teacher, Jesus of Nazareth did NO writing while He
was here on earth. He taught all orally for some three and one half years and then He went back to Heaven. Oral instruction is soon forgotten or affected in some way when re-told second and third hand. But the Lord wanted His teaching preserved and told to the world, and so He had a plan all worked out.
.

FIRST, A LITTLE “GRAMMAR” LESSON

(This won’t take long). It will help us in a study of the Bible to know: (1}Who is speaking and, (2) Who is being spoken to. In the context of the verses that we are most interested with in this tract on the Master-Plan there is the pronoun "you” (Jn.13-17).Jesus is talking to His chosen disciples in this context and most of what He has to say applies directly to them: "These things have I spoken unto you, being yet Present with you (Jn. 14:25). He was personally present with the disciples and they were personally present with Him. And He had some personal things to say to them. Now, back to our exciting story.

JESUS SAYS GOOD-BYE TO HIS DISCIPLES

When Jesus announced to His disciples: "But now I go my way to Him that sent Me", naturally, "sorrow. .. filled (their) heart" (Jn. 16:5-6). Their wonderful Master-Teacher was going to leave them. However, He was not going to leave them alone. How's that?!

JESUS GOES AND THE COMFORTER COMES

"I tell you the truth; It is expedient (good) for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you" (In. 16:7).

DO YOU KNOW WHO THE COMFORTER IS ?

The “Comforter” is “the Spirit of Truth” (Jn 16:13; 15:26). Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit.

NOW FOR THE MASTER-PLAN

Here it is....right from the lips of The Master Himself: "However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you. All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and show it unto you" (John 16:13-15).
A close study of these verses will uncover the outline of the beautiful Master-Plan. "All things" were with "the Father" who gave "all things" to Jesus who in turn allowed the Holy Spirit to "take" "all things" and give them to the disciples (the "you" of the verses). The disciples were to be guided "into all truth" by the Spirit. The Spirit would "teach

(them) all things to come" as well as "bring all things to (their) remembrance, whatso- ever (Jesus) ...said unto (them)" (Jn. 14:26 & 16:13).

GLORIFY -MAGNIFY -AMPLIFY

The Spirit was to "glorify Christ, magnify the Messiah, and amplify the truth. He was to
both reveal new truths and remind of those He had already orally spoken (In. 14:26).
Christ was to be exalted by the Holy Spirit as The Saviour and the Holy Spirit was to
fulfill His part as The Revelator.

WHAT NOW?

Whenever the Comforter did "come" to the disciples and they had "all truth" what did
they do with it? They were to teach it and write it! (1 Cor. 2:10.13) The Holy Spirit did
" come" to the apostles (Acts 1:26; 2:1-14; 1:3-8; Luke 24:49-53). He came in "power"
on the "day of Pentecost" following the resurrection and ascension of Jesus (Acts 2:1-
47). From that time on the disciples were given gospel truth by the Holy Spirit. At first
they taught it orally, and later they wrote it down in letters (2 Thess. 2:15).

THE THREE R'S: READING, WRITING, AND REVEALING
The apostle Paul wrote, ". ..by revelation He (God) made known to me the mystery; (as I wrote before in a few words, whereby, when you read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), which in other ages was not known unto the sons of men, as it is NOW revealed unto His “holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit” (Eph 3:3-5).

God Revealed the truth; inspired men wrote the truth; And we are to read the truth. Man can "understand" the Bible (3:4). "Wherefore be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is" (Eph. 5:17).

ALL TRUTH IS ALL TRUTH!!

The Master-Plan described how that the Holy Spirit was to "come" to the apostles. And that He would "guide" them "into ALL truth" (In. 16:13). Since Jesus would not tell a lie, He must have carried out the promise (Heb. 6: 18). So, before the last apostle died, "all truth" must have been given. There is no more truth of a spiritual nature to be given. We have, In the New Testament, "ALL things that pertain unto life and godliness" (2 Pet. 1:3; 2 Tim. 3:16-17). All extra-curricular courses (Creeds, Manuals, etc., of men, e) are not needed. They are even condemned (Gal. 1:6-10; 1 Cor. 4;6; 2 In- 9).

TRUTH NEEDS ATTESTATION

The story of a "resurrected" dead man needs some miraculous attestation or confirmation (2 Pet. 1:16). So, whenever the disciples "'went forth, and preached everywhere, the lord work(ed)with them, and confirm(ed) the word with signs following" (Mk. 16;20). Through the signs and miracles wrought by the apostles in the first century the gospel story "WAS confirmed" (Heb. 2:3-4). It does not need to be confirmed again and again. Imitations of our day are truly bogus (Rev. 2:2; 2 Cor. 12:12; Mt. 7:22).

FAIL -CEASE -VANISH AWAY

It took some 60 years for the Holy Spirit to reveal "all truth" to the apostles. Meanwhile, the apostles went about teaching AND they had the power to "lay their hands" on members of the early church to "impart" to them "some spiritual gift" (Rom. 1:11; Acts 8:14.18; 1 Cor. 12-14). The "spiritual gifts" were temporary...serving until the word of God was completed or until "all truth" had "come". Paul says that "when that which is perfect is come, ,then that which is in part shall be done away" (1 Cor. 13:10). The completed word is "the perfect law of liberty" (Jas. 1:25; 2 Tim. 3:16-17). When "all truth" was revealed and written the temporary spiritual gifts would "fail, cease, and vanish away" (1 Cor. 13:8). Friend, let your "faith come from hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17). The word of God was "written, that you might believe (Jn. 20:31).

THE INDWELLING WORD

The Holy Spirit acted as a "Comforter” to the apostles, "com(ing)" to them with the gospel, with "all truth." And today we can "receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls" (Jas. 1:21). We can "comfort one another with these words" in regard to the blessed hope they tell about, even heaven (1 Thess. 4:18). "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom" (Col. 3:16). The New Testament words revealed by the Spirit "gives life” {2 Cor. 3:6; Jn. 6:63; Heb. 4:12).

PLAINLY PUT

The Holy Spirit truth as revealed in the New Testament is both clear and plain. Jesus planned it this way: He said that the Holy Spirit would "tell you plainly of the Father" (Jn. 16:25). Plain instructions for becoming a Christians are given in Acts chapter two, the first time Spirit spoke through the apostles following the ascension of Jesus: To inquiring sinners the apostle Peter said: "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of (or authority of ) Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).

YOUNG PEOPLE

Obey the Lord Jesus Christ; "rightly divide the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15); appreciate the Master-Plan. God will richly bless you with “every spiritual blessing....in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).
